Meilea's Friend Party

So I bit the bullet and let Meilea have 5 girl friends over on Sunday for yet another party... Much to my pleasant surprise, the party was actually a lot of fun (even for me!) It helped that I had nearly every minute planned so there was no time for 6 - 12 year old girls to get in trouble (well... nearly... there was the cupcake incident. But that was short lived)
Here are the pics.. Yes. I would do it again!
The girls made jewelry, pigged out on junk food, played the curler game (which surprisingly was a big hit!) and then continued styling each others hair using spray in color that Meilea got as one of her gifts. They ended with Twister (the party classic) and all couldn't believe it when suddenly 3 hours had past and their parents came to collect them.. As they say, time flies when you're having fun!

Meilea Turns 12!

My beautiful daughter turned 12 on Friday, September 17th! Memories were shared and parties abounded. Here are some pictures of the this weekend.. Click to see the full account of the goings on! Currently she is a big fan of the Twilight series. Also a recent fan of Jim Carrey in Bruce Allmighty. (As evidenced by the movies she is holding)...

More cabinet craziness

Here is the 'antique' cabinet that Kevin and I bought (see earlier post) almost completed. It took longer than I originally planned... but, best laid plans and all... Click pic to see the kitchen as it is progressing. Home improvement takes sooooo much time when life keeps happening all around you!

Rowan's first Dentist Appointment

Well, my little boy is growing up! He went to see the dentist for the first time today, and he did great! Of course, a visit to the dentist isn't like it used to be. For starters, there is a TV playing cartoons and banana split flavored tooth paste! But he had a great first visit, hopefully meaning he won't fear the dentist like some kids do! The pretty lady (Joette) was so awesome also, which certainly helped make his experience a nice one!
As usual, click the pic to see some more dentist excitement.

Welcome Chet!

My mom just rescued a new little guy. His life started out unsettled, but now he is with a person who will make sure he is treated like a prince! He is a Lab/mix and only 3 months. But he is not your typical puppy. He is docile and gentle and walks next to my mom like a trained dog. Welcome home!

Antitetam Trail Hike

Yesterday we took a great nature walk up by Antietam Lake. It was a beautiful day, and we were able to escape to the relative seclusion, without the sounds or sights made by humans. I forget how wonderful the woods can be, even though I grew up as a child of the forest.

Click on this picture to go to my flickr account and you will see all of the pictures from the hike!

Random Fun

Just some random photos of the past couple of days....

Dogs in the House!

Recently, my two dogs have had company! Rudy and Mindy, my Mom's two dogs have been over to play the past few days and here are some of the pics I took...

Mr. Rudy isn't too fond of having his picture taken, however, and it was a challenge to get a good one of him!

The lost art of Freezing Corn

Yesterday, my Mom and Dad came over with 200 + ears of corn for us to freeze. This is something I remember from when I was little when my Mom would buy maybe 300 ear from a local farmer, John Kolle, and my grandmother (Ella), Mom, sister and I would spend the afternoon shucking, boiling, cutting and bagging corn. And even better memories of eating the corn come November when everyone else just had the tasteless stuff you could buy from the freezer section of the grocery store.

The pictures show my mom and dad, daughter (Meilea) and son (Rowan), all of whom partook in the afternoon. It was a good day and you can see the results in my fridge. We got about 40 quart bags full of yummy, organic (ish) corn, still grown by the same farmer mentioned above. Good stuff!

August Flowers

Just a few pictures of some flowers in my yard. The flowers aren't as prolific this year as some of my past efforts... Perhaps because of the intense heat..? The sunflower is pretty nice though! Of all the holly hocks I planted, only one came up. The roses are on their second bloom.
Oh, well. That's all...

Easter Pictures

These are pictures from Easter. I know, it was awhile ago, but, I didn't have this blog back then, so how could have I posted them, huh? Anyway, the first picture are some of the beautiful flowers that bloom around my house come spring time. Oh how I long for spring...
